When considering cosmetic treatments, one of the biggest concerns is timing. Even though many treatments require very little downtime, it’s important to consider consultation time, recovery, how long the treatment will take until you see the best results. It is also wise to think about any special events that you have coming up.
Winter is often the most popular time to undergo treatment for patients considering liposuction, and with good reason.
VASER liposuction is a more modern type of liposuction that’s much more versatile. VASER is powerful enough to be used on large stubborn areas of fat, yet also delicate enough to be used on more precise areas like the jawline or décolletage.
Before your treatment, your consultant will give you some information about getting prepared, which may involve avoiding ibuprofen and taking supplements. VASER liposuction treatment takes 1-3 hours on average, and recovery time ranges from as little as one day to up to a week.
As we approach winter, with the exception of the festive season, events often start to slow down. When you’re already spending more time at home or staying in more as the weather turns, it’s the perfect time to take for your preparation and recovery, knowing you won’t miss anything important.
After receiving VASER liposuction, you will temporarily need to wear a compression garment. For under chin treatments, you will only need to wear this for three days, but for larger areas of treatment, you may need to wear compression for 3-6 weeks. Your consultant will advise you before treatment, but you need to be ready to continue treatment for several weeks.
Liposuction in winter means you won’t be stuck in a compression garment during a heatwave. It’s also much easier to hide the compression garment during winter if you’re worried about other people seeing it. You’re likely to be bundled up in jumpers, coats, scarves and hats already, so you can step out into the world in all of your layers without feeling self-conscious.
Some people are happy to discuss their procedures, while others prefer to keep it a secret – choosing either option is completely normal and understandable. If you do feel like you want to keep news of the treatment to yourself, then scheduling your procedure at the start of the year will make hiding your new body much easier.
A lot of people choose to start a new diet or fitness routine at the start of the year. This means it is easier to take time away healing under comfy clothes in winter. Then, come summer, you can fully enjoy your new appearance.
VASER liposuction is a very safe procedure with minimal side effects, although, like anything, there are some things to be aware of.
You may experience some discomfort for a few days after your treatment and potentially a dull ache for a few weeks. It’s very likely that you will experience some swelling at the treatment site – you will be given aftercare techniques to help reduce swelling, but it can take time to subside.
There will also be some bruising, which can easily be covered with the comfortable clothes that we often reach for in the colder months.
You may see some improvement in the treatment area immediately after your surgery, but swelling may mask some of the immediate effects.
Liposuction can take up to 6 months to settle in, which means you may not be able to appreciate the full results for quite a while after treatment. It’s important to factor this time in when booking your treatment. If there’s a special event that you want to look your best for, then try to give yourself a minimum of a few months between the treatment and your event.
As long as you remain a similar weight to when you had the treatment, the results of liposuction can be permanent. This means that in regard to preparing for an event, you can’t have the treatment too early, so it is wise to give yourself plenty of time.
Life gets busy, you run out of time, last-minute engagements come up, and your plans go out the window. It’s completely normal and understandable, but in order to get the best results from your treatment you need to follow your consultant’s instructions fully.
By having a procedure in winter, there will be less socialising and last-minute plans to distract you from following your surgeon’s advice. This means that you can enjoy your new look with your friends once you’ve finished healing.
Winter is a great time to undergo VASER liposuction treatment, but whatever time of year you decide is right for you, Dr Comins will be there to give you advice and help guide you through the process at your own speed. If you’d like to find out more, book a consultation with our team today.
