2022 is shaping up to be the year of embracing makeup-free beauty. Ultra-glam looks have been pushed aside in favour of the natural look during the day. But, there are still trends within the natural beauty movement.
Permanent lip pigmentation, micro-blading and facial sculpting are all becoming more popular as people seek to make their “I woke up like this” look closer to their everyday appearance.
Facial sculpting is a trend that’s been popular in the beauty community for over a decade. Referred to as contouring in the case of makeup, this refers to using makeup that’s lighter and darker than your skin tone to create artificial shadows and highlights on your face, resulting in a more sculpted look.
Typically, a slightly darker product would be applied below the cheekbones, at the hairline on the forehead and possibly even along the jawline to make these areas appear smaller or more sculpted. A lighter (sometimes pearlescent powder) would be used on top of the cheekbones, on the bridge of the nose or in the centre of the forehead to highlight these features and bring them forward, making them appear more prominent.
Chiselled features have been seen on celebrities for decades, with 1960s model Sophia Loren famed for their sharp cheekbones or Bianca Jagger’s chiselled jaw.
In recent years celebrities have been driving a resurgence in the popularity of ultra-chiselled features. Models and actors can be seen walking the red carpet with heavy contouring to create angular features. To some extent, K-pop stars have also been responsible for this, with the V-shaped jawline becoming hugely sought-after in the past few years.
Despite the ultra-chiselled look always having a place in Hollywood glamour, social media has made images of aspirational features more accessible and has driven a surge in the popularity of minimally-invasive procedures that help to recreate the look.
While a more sculpted look can be achieved by using different shades of makeup, it’s also possible to create the same look without applying lots of products every day. Of course, you can control the shape of your face to some extent by managing your weight through diet and regular exercise.
Having said that, non-surgical treatments have surged in popularity thanks to models like Bella Hadid showing up on social media with ultra-chiselled features that a lot of people feel they couldn’t replicate with makeup and weight management alone. These treatments are relatively permanent but minimally invasive, meaning that the treatment could take as little as 30 minutes, but the effects could last for months.
INTRAcel uses a combination of radiofrequency, micro-needling and fractional treatments to provide a non-surgical facelift. The combination of treatments tightens skin and smooths the texture by reducing the prominence of pores, fine lines and acne scarring. INTRAcel can provide a more subtle approach to the highly contoured look, creating more taut skin, but it won’t provide the ultra-sculpted look that you see on many celebrities.
ULTRAcel is similar to INTRAcel, but it’s much more targeted. ULTRAcel uses high intensity focused ultrasound and radiofrequency to tighten the skin in highly-targeted areas. ULTRAcel is often used around the jawline and neck and targets the soft tissue to promote longer-lasting tightening. INTRAcel and ULTRAcel can be combined to create an even more sculpted look.
One of the biggest barriers to having an ultra-sculpted jawline is fat deposits. Everyone will have fat deposits around the face, but some will find that no amount of diet and exercise can reduce specific fat areas – the location of fat deposits is largely down to genetics. VASER Liposuction can help you create a more sculpted look by selectively removing fat to reshape your body.
While it’s traditionally used on larger areas of the body, it’s delicate enough to use on your neck and can help to sculpt your jawline by removing the fat in those areas.
If you naturally have a very lean body, but you still don’t feel like your face is as sculpted as you would like, then dermal fillers can help you achieve this look. Many people shy away from dermal fillers for fear of their face looking bigger, but when dermal fillers are applied properly, they can help subtly reshape your face and create a more angular appearance.
There are many different routes that you can take the achieve the ever-popular sculpted look. Diet and weight management can help a lot, but if you feel that’s not enough, Hans Place offers many non-surgical procedures that can help you achieve the look.
